windows 7 is available in six different editions, but there is an unlimited amount of them if you take away the 'different' factor.
2. Describe some of the features of the new task bar.
-you can mouse over one program and all windows associated with it will appear
- there are large icons ;)
-you can have 2 windows open to fill the desktop
3. What are jump lists and how will they be useful?
okay, going with the obvious, because they just are. As they work when you click (left/right, doesnt really matter) and drag any program icon that is on the ask bar to seel a list of files that you've used lately in a particular program, this is useful as it helps make recently opened files easier to access.
4. How can one quickly size two windows to fill the desktop side by side?
maybe you should watch it to find out, i dont like spoiling a good ending... but seriously, i'll finish this later...maybe (wink wink, place 2 windows to fill the desktop side by side, simply move one of the windows further to the left and the other further to the right, and the will automatically re-size to fit half the screen each.)
5. Research and describe the 9 multi touch gestures that Windows 7 uses (note: this site does not describe the gestures you will need to run a search).
-1) tap and double tap. clicking and double clicking
-2) selection/drag. like a mouse dray and selection but moving your fingers on the screen
-3) panning with inertia. scrolling, moving the page up or down with your fingers
-4) press and tap with second finger. basically right clicking but with your second finger
-5) zoom. kinda like the Ctrl key + Scroll wheel. pinch 2 fingers together or apart to zoom in and out of a document
-6) rotate. touch 2 spots on a digital photo and twist to rotate it
-7) 2 finger tap. tapping with two fingers zooms in aroung the middle of where you tapped. it can also restore to the default zoom.
-8) press and hold. same as right click. press down on the screen and release after the animation has appeared
-9) flicks. flicking left or right to go forward or backwards in a browser and other applications.

XP mode is used to run older programs and it's useful for people who work with heeeeaps of documents and need to find them fast.

when you plug your USB or hard drive in it doesn't run them automatically anymore so there is less infections.
8. What are the minimum hardware requirements for windows 7.
1GHz processor, 1 or 2GB RAM, 16-20GB of free space on your hard drive and a directX 9 graphics device.
9. What observations does the article offer regarding performance for Windows 7?
-sometimes it is the slowest out of Windows XP and Vista
-it is the fastest to shutdown
-windows 7 RTM ties with XP for Itunes encoding
-slower than XP and Vista for booting up cold by a bit more than 1 second
-feels faster when loading programs, opening the control panel, dragging icons, files and folders around than XP

in the last few lessons, i've been working on our scrapblog (link in the side thingy) and i think it's been going very well.
so far there have been no major problems except for the fact that we cant work on it at once...but we've got over that problem by not working at the same time.
and yeah, nothing much new..
wait !! i did the CPU test (with the help of the internet, what ?! it was really hard. actually not really because most of the answers were in the answers in the task which i did before, smart aye ? i thought so)

ohh no ! i realised that i haven't answered the questions ( well i did, but not about scrapblog) so here i go. actually, i think i might of already said half this stuff, but ohh well, just read it for the love of reading.
scrapblog has some really cool things that we can use, such as; text, movies, stickers, images, and more which i will edit on tomorrow.
scrapblog is also easy to use as we can create links between the pages and you can just click of something, then ta-daa ! your there. There is a menu system, but for our slide show, we might not use it-depends how much time we have left.
The down side of scrapblog as no-one has noticed yet, is that yes, two people can work on it at the same time, but you can not save/publish at the same time. (I've said why in the post underneath the post underneath this [the one under the one under this])

CPU.
the CPU holds the microprocessor, which basically means its the brain of a computer. the first CPU was dubbed "intel 4004" which was waaay back in 1971 ! (btw, does intel 4004 sound like something that belongs in a transformers movie? why, i do think so.)
And since 1971 was ages ago, technology has improved. For example back in the day the clock speed was 2MHz, and now its around 3.6MHz. (which is like 60% faster !!)
did you know that MIP's measure the computer and is capable of 1 000 000 (is that 1 million ? well, its meant to be 1 million) instructions per second.
or that a duel core processor is a CPU that has two execution cores with one chip? i don't think you did...
But i think you get that multitasking is when you are doing more then one thing at one time, well, same for computers except they run more then one task at a time.
And back with the unknown... the intel atom processor uses less power and is really small while sill allowing a 'big internet experience' which might come in use for people who use their phones to go onto the internet unlike the normal people who use a computer.

i'm sorry that i haven't been blogging recently, its mainly because our assignment is on scrapblog, and we're working on that every lesson, there really isnt time to blog. So here's my chance.
Well today, we descovered that my partners in crime and myself can not both publish things at the same time(because if they save something, then i save something after that, their work is not on my save, so the computer thinks we deleted it or something, so its not there) which really sucks, so we are going to not save at the same time. problem fixed. And so now we're just researching and making our slideshow. I just finished my first topic on 'hand held multimedia devices' i did the itouch, obviously. And i also did the online quiz thingy (with the help of the world wide web) and yeah.

okay, right in with the work.
1.where do you commonly use multimedia in your daily life? well i don't know about you, but i use use multimedia at school (mainly in ist), on the bus(ipod!!), at home(wonderful laptop which i have dubbed "george"), and i use my phone almost everywhere.
2. what multimedia device or service would find it hardest to be without? I would have to say my phone, only because it can pretty much do everything my computer can and it can play music, so no need for an ipod, even though the itouch is super cool.
3. Do you think the second video will come true ? i think to a certain extent it will as at the rate new technology is becoming available to the public, it will be only a matter of time till everyone has everything. The advantages to this are that everything would be less time consuming and easier for the said human being, it also is really cool and makes communication to people alot easier. But i think the disadvantages to this would be making everything too available, people might get sick/annoyed with it after a short period of time. And i would imagine that the people who use it would become extremely lazy and sad(but not in the depressed way, well maybe). And as michelle has stated that artificial intelligence taking over the world and making everyone dance like a monkey because after a few years with this kind of technology everyone will trust it, and if something goes wrong we might not be so willing to accept that.
and michelle, wow. with your number 4, it seems like you've had alot of time to think about that. i wonder if the said person in power and mad with it could be you in a few years ?

data compression.
as it is like the second last day of term, i'm rather tired and bored. But school ends tomorrow, harry potter comes out next week, and i have a spongebob marathon planned with a totally random person who works with sheep. yeah, its totally action packed. But on with data compression.
data compression is otherwise known as 'source coding' which is the process of encoding information using fewer bits and pieces. very vague isnt it, but i like it.
data compression, okay i'm already annoyed from tying data com.. so from here onwards it shall be refered to as ping. i dont know why, but it shall. okay so ping ratio is the ratio of the size/rate of the origional to the size/rate of the compression data.
ping is a important technique for the online world because it helps decrease the utilization (wow, i like that word) of expencice recources. the only small glitch is that the information must be decompressed which might ruin some applications.

RSS FEEDS.
which stands for really simple syndication ! you don't believe me? google it. Now, i wish all acronym's would be that simple. When i first heard rss feeds, I'm like "what ?!" but those three simple words, which just happens that two of them are 'really simple' kinda adds to the awesome factor...ahh, the awesome factor.
back on with biting the bullet...get it gabbie ? bullet ! okay maybe not, god I'm sad sometimes, but anyway...
since we have already cleared up what RSS stands for, here is the definition. i is the format used when you want to syndicate the news and other feed content. so basically it's the stuff that allows information to be sent over the internet.
now, you may be asking, what goes into the feed oh wonderful one.., well the feed has two types which just happen to be different. A partial feed and a full feed. Sill with me ? better hope so, I'm doing this for you. A partical feed is when you only get the headline and a summary of the information and the link to the website can go on it, and a full feed is the whole entire website! pretty obvious if you ask me.
Now, what can a feed do for you ? well the real question is not what it can do for you, but what can you do for it ? not really, you cant really do anything for it, unless you want to like literally feed a computer, but that might look alittle suss. But the answer is that it keeps you updated, its basically like a personal twitter, well, actually no, but twitter is so cool and it has a cute little bird on it! i like birds.
Question 4! which you really wouldn't know because unless you've been keeping count (which if you have is kinda weird) is yeah, still kind of weird. makes sense doesn't it ? How are feeds different from e-mail? okay, there's the obvious, the name differences, then you have the less obvious such as RSS is anonymous and it doesn't have the all hated spam ! i really hate spam, and I'm not just talking about the tinned meat either.
Number go. (which is 5 in japanese) how sad is that, after three years learning japanese all i can do it like count to 5. well actually i can count to like 100, well now that i think about it, i cant. I only know up to 99, how pathetic is that? anyways, How do you read a feed? well you kinda need a computer, and the Internet would help alot, fingers ? well you don't really need them, but they make the job alot easier, and yeah, eyes. but actually Ithink the answer that you are looking for is that by visiting a page and the feel automatically gets the information.
&& last but definitely least, How do you find the feeds you want to subscribe to? by a keyword search, just like magic. which reminds me, HARRY POTTER COMES OUT SOON !

Our synopsis [funny word] for our movie is as follows.....
Ummm, our movie is basically scenes of three young women in our natural habitat, which just happens to be in this case in a park/creek. In our movie we are just doing everyday things like sitting on a bench with a guitar, or cartwheeling on a pathway... our movie is aimed at teenagers around the age of 14-16. four small walls expresses the thoughts and ideas that teenagers feel and the things that they do for example, playing music by a river [or it could just be in their room, not everyone needs to be in a river to have fun, though it does help] and walking in the park. The message that we are trying to get across... is that teenagers try extremely hard with whatever they do and the thoughts that we have on life, and that we don't just sit at home on the computer, well okay we do, but that's not the point. Our movie is an adaption of Meghan's YouTube movie " the box".
okay, lets go back in time for abit.
it all started yesterday when we gave up our lunch time to edit our film by adding in the voice over. A problem that occured was that since we started in nero, it was the wrong format so we had to convert the whole film on a program that name escapes me, but i think it starts with 'z'. We also recorded michelle's part due to the fact that we are in different classes. So her part is done.
Now forward into the present.
Today ariadne is away meaning we cannot record her part because she isn't here, makes sense doesnt it? ummm, and i shall record my part at home as it is rather loud and i really dont want the extra unwanted noise in the film.

-What is a Conceptual Sheet or Painting storyboard? This is only a sequence of images, much like a photo-essay.
-Who are TV storyboards produced for ? They are produces for the people involved in any type of film or t.v show. ie, the producer, or actors.
-The story which is told in a film is broken down into narrative elements which are Film conventions.
-If a film is filmed in real time it would be tedious and time-consuming so what is done to make it more interesting? The plot is broken down further into important events or situations.
-What are these called? Moments.
-These are categorised as atmospheric, narrative and critical.
-When are Establishing or Long Shot used in filming? Generally used to establish a scene's setting or atmosphere. Mid -Shot which are used to focus (on a person) from the foot to the head.
-What is the difference in using High Camera Angle compared to Low Camera Angle? In the high camera angle, the camera is higher than eye level, looking down, and a low camera angle is lower than eye level looking up.
-How do you start a storyboard? Write a synopsis of the plot of the film.
-What is the next step in creating the storyboard? Break up the plot into moments and scenes, then shots.
-Pencilling in the scenes and shots is the next step.
-What is involved in Analysing the scenes? Look for mise-en scene, montage, or camera angle shots required to enhance a scene.
-What does Flesh out the Draft mean? Use drawings, clip art or digital photos and add more detail to the shot description and sound effects panels.

I have two options today, to narrate a sideshow OR define things. I think I'll go with defining things. Now what may you be asking ? Do I hear broadband? Broadband is a type of data transmission in which a single medium or wire if you will, can carry several channels at once. Cable TV, for example, uses broadband transmission which can transmit data, audio, and video all at once over long distances. Now you may be asking what units are used to measure bandwidth ? or not. well its a gigabyte or better known as a GB. And now...How much faster is broadband then dial up? broadband is an average of nine times faster then dial up. That is quite a big difference if you ask me. It's kind of funny that people get annoyed because I don't number the questions making it harder for them (not) to copy my answers. So this is for you. Number 4. What are the speeds that broadband operates at compared to dial up? ummm, it really depends how fast your broadband is, but lets just say very fast. Number 5. What are some of the advantages of using a broadband connection to download something like a video compared to dial up? because broadband is faster, and more convenient. Number 6. awwww. I am meant to create an image in paint that illustrates a high bandwidth. I don't want to. I'll just do it later.

C) ummm, the data transfer rate varies as in terms i can understand, it is like a traffic jam as there are too many lanes converging into a smaller number in rush hour traffic, which i do imagine would definatly slow things down.

But on with the work. Explain the video standards PAL, NTSC, and SECAM, what are the main differences between them? you might be thinking, huh? no fear! I am now here..PAL, is used to format decks and cameras. NTSC, is a type of format to record videos on video's and SECAM, is an analog colour television system. Now here comes the fun part. the main difference between these three video standards is a format only used for broadcasting that are used in different countries. Bet you didn't know that one, did you? Now after all this technical talk, you might be left wondering which one do we use here, in Australia. We use PAL, for the fact that pal is a friend.

For what type of video camera would you need to have a Video Capture Card in your computer to download video? I do believe that would be a analog one. And why don’t we need a video capture card for the video we will be doing at school? because, I think we are using a digital camera! HAZAR! jeeze, going all medieval on you. Some smart person once asked "What is an IEEE 1394 port?" so, i thought i might answer that for you. It is a port in which you connect an IEEE 1394 connector to a digital video camera to a computer IEEE 1394 port. Next question...describe what a codec is? a codec is what compresses and decompresses video's. smart. And last and probably least...what is meant by generation loss, where does it happen? and nooo, it does not mean losing a generation of human beings. it is when you copy something and it's not as good as the original. It happens in both formats, but more often in analog.

Okay since blogger has to be difficult, my animation wont load. very angry. And yes, I have tried flickr, but nooooooooo, image was too large, then movie "unable to load". Biggest lie of my life. Why does technology hate me? It's not like I did anything to it, on purpose. hmmmph. annoyed.
&& Yes, I have tried photobucket, but its still not letting me upload, it said my image was too large, after I waited an hour for it to load.
-I could do take the easier option, which would be to make my animation smaller, but I cant be bothered, so I'm going to upload to YouTube. Okay, just thought of a problem with that. Our school doesn't allow YouTube. damm.

hellooo, today is the last IST lesson before its due. So yeah, its last period, and I'm really tired. But the good news is that I've finished my assignment! finally. And the complete animation is saved as an animated gif.
&& the final size of my animation is 7MB, cool huh. Just so you know, my animation has 172 frames. That, my friends, was tedious, as after every move, no matter how small I had to save it. And, (I'm sorry for going on and on) I have changed my animation idea, just because of the fact that I felt everyone else's was really good, and mine could of been better. I'm not going to tell you what it is about, you'll just have to waste five seconds of your life watching it. Astala byebye

okay on with the task set for today, I am almost finished my animation, and since I have been doing it in inkscape, I have been saving each layer, frame if you will, as 0010, 0020, 0030 ect. during the development process. And my new frame rate is going to be 15/second, so in total I will have around 105 frames all together.
Some difficulties I have encounted were:
-trying to get the image to move (that was really hard)
-ummm, realising that creating a new layer, does not export it, you have to export every frame.
-deciding what colour to do
-how to create an actual animation
-trying to be original (didnt really work)
-remembering when it is due (friday 3rd April)
And yeahh, byeeeee
& The creation process which I followed was;
1. deciding whether to do it in gimp or inkscape.
2. Started animating it by making one movement and then exporting it to a folder in my 'f' drive (USB).
3. Saved the animation into a folder on my 'f' drive.
4. Put my animation into Gimp. I did this by opening the folder as layers and then Gimp opened them in the order which I had them saved.
5. Viewed the animation through Gimp
6. Failed at uploading my animation on blogger.
7. Uploaded my animation onto Photobucket.
9. From Photobucket transferred animation link into blogger.
10. Failed posting my animation several times.
11. Posted my animation
&& I would like to state that having a "Who is less competitive" competition is pointless. As trying to win at this will make you lose. Trying to lose makes you win which makes you lose. Not trying at all makes you lose which makes you win which makes you lose. Get what I mean ?
It has come to my attention that someone has rated my blogs as lame. And I am not going to name this 'person' as I am not five. Yea. Okay, on to my next issue; I was reading people's blogs, and I noticed that for our assignment, we have to post about it, thats not the problem, the problem is that EVERYONE it titling them "assessment 1, assessment 2". I know it shouldn't bother me, but it does.
Now conserning my assignment, I have changed the whole running man/lepricorn/falling shamrock idea/ gimp/whatever else I changed. I am now going to use inkscape, as it is the easier option plus I've already finished it in inkscape. It is now a pacman theme, or should I say pacman ghost theme....oooooh scary.....
But yeah, I have also changed my frame rate, cause I want it to be really fast for the fact that jumpy flashing things really annoy me.

Buying a Digital Camera
-You are going to buy a digital camera
So apparently I am going to buy a digital camera. I love how that sounds, "you are going to buy a digital camera." Wow. talk about getting straight to the point.
1. I want to buy a digital camera just for the sake of having a digital camera.
2. Well, my ideal camera should have a very good resolution, so no blurry "omg!! what does that say?? mehh, cant be bothered, I'll just google it."
3. I would say that the memory should be very available. As I am very clumsy, well you could say strange, but you get my point, very available.
4. Now I must find two camera's that suit my criteria...Okay, apparently I am meant to type all the information for my camera's....I don't think that is going to happen. So here is Camera:

The reason why I went from gimp to inkscape was because mr lennon said that gimp was easier and for the sole reason that a majority of the tutorials are for inkscape. Inkscape supports SVG features (markers, clones, alpha blending, etc). It is very easy to edit nodes, perform path operations, trace bitmaps and much more. But I chose to save my files to a png, and the dimensions are 320x320. Even though I had to make them smaller.

&& Since this is my first post for this assessment, I am going to state that the software I will be attempting to do this in will be....GIMP!! I chose to do it in gimp because I personally think it will, in the final result, look better. Plus I can't figure out how to work inkscape.

Mr Lennon was showing us some of the old animations from previous years, there is one that like; a person falls through two contraptions and gets squashed, then the stick figure gets angry and throws a rock? at the contraptions and they get stuck!! as if that isn't funny.
p.s. this is an edit, it is now 7.15pm on the 11th march. You will never believe what happened today. Like 4 hours ago, someone stole my diary!! We were swimming at the morley centre, and someone took it. I have no idea why someone would take a diary, it has my name on it. Its not going to be very useful to the thief, unless they are in all my classes...actually no, it still wouldnt, cause I didnt write my homework in my diary, Its like what are you going to do now? call my home phone demanding a ransom, its a diary, I CAN get another. topic statement: how is a bmp different from these;
GIF files : well, hello to you to, so basically gif files are normally used for smaller animations, as the maximum colours you can have is 256.
JPEG files : again, normally used for digital photography. Here the maximum colour would be 42949 something arather with and extra 6 digits to the end of that, pretty much the same as a gif, just more colour depth.
MPEG files : mainly used for digital video's, to use this, you need a fast computer, and lots of free space. Standard colour - 1100kbps, it saves space my deleting the repetition of frames.
ANIMATED GIF files : used to make series of images/frames, Animated gif is larger than a normal gif, common size is 69x60 pixels, the bigger the picture, the bigger the file.
SHOCKWAVE files : commonly used for multimedia, they are vector based, which means that is doesn't save as individual pixels, it saves as a picture. Go shockwave!

Today is the first day of lent! I have given up chocolate...I am now, about 4 hours clean. So anyway, on with the work, I have to draw a tin man in 'inkscape' which is proving alot harder than I would of liked. It is now 12:34pm, I have been trying to do this for about 35 minutes. All I have done is a sun. As I have stated before, I think I repel technology.
I give up, you win. I now refuse to draw this tin man. Why is it even a tin man? no-one likes the tin man, in my opinion, I think the tin man is rather annoying.

this is a continuation from "Painting Tools!" what fun.
Pencil Tool; draw free hand: thats really annoying and hard. if you havent tried to do it before, do it now.. seriously, try drawing a perfet heart or circle. Its not possible, unless you have freakishly steady hands or something. So basically, you just draw like normally, but on the computer.
BRUSH TOOL !: With the brush tool, its like painting with a brush, but again, on the computer, it's like the pencil tool, but with a brush. Makes sense doesnt it ?
Air Brush Tool: There is an air brush tool, no way! Well, i guess that you probably understand that I do not know what it does. So yeah. WAIT !! HOLD EVERYTHING! this is the spray paint button... Just wanted to say that.
Text Tool: But I do know what the text tool does, you click on the button, then a rectangular thingy comes up and you place it in the position, and you type. Its like magic..
Line Tool: Well, im not sure, but i think that it draws lines, because that would explain the name...
Whats with all the tools, seriously ? Who really needs all these tools, I'm starting to think "why dont you just paint like a normal person, what if i like coffee stains on my artwork?"
Curve Tool: Makes curves, pretty obvious.
Shape Tool: I have no idea, makes shapes ?

hey there, we just did the "quiz" that I talked about last time, and since im me, I didnt find it necessaryto study, big mistake. I think I failed, so next time I will study, study, study!! yeah, thats not going to happen. So back on topic, painting tools. I havent used paint in like a billion years! I feel so old right now. "Summarize the main function of each of the following tools". I hate summarizing, it actually really annoy's me. But I will get over that, because there are more important things that summarizing. Like saving the whales! GO WHALES!!!
Capture Tools: not literally, so, you dont actually go out with a hunting net and try and catch your tools. Get with the time man, we're talking digital! You actually get a square-ish rectangular-ish square kind of thing, which you drag over your selected part and move it somewhere else. If you didnt quite get that, it's okay, because I didnt really get it either.
Eraser;to rub raint or pencil out: Yeah, no offence, but if you dont get that, your kinda slow. You rub paint, or pencil out your mistake. Got that ?
Paint Fill: This is seriously one of my favourite tools, because you can paint a whole blob with one click, if that isnt cool, I dont know what is.
And last but not least, I never really got why people say that, because what if it is least ?? ever thought of that. I think not. But anyways,
Pick Colour Tool: ummm, you pick your colour and it is a tool ? not that hard, or is it ? you never can know.

Well, I have something to say about this topic, I find digital art really COOL!! yeah, i know that's weird, but who cares, I know I dont...yet.
But I feel like asking you a question? Even though I dont know who you actually are. But dont hold that against me. So yeah, "is digital art a valid form of art?"
Well, i know nobody asked me to answer, well, not physically, but they did techniqually. That sounded really lame. I think it is a valid form of art as its art, who cares if its painted or done on the computer. Its the artist thinks it art, thats fine with me. And there are some advantages to digital art, like if you make a mistake, not a tiny little one that you can hide, I'm talking about the "crap, i just spilled a bucket of....coffee (very good coffee), with 10 satchets of brown sugar, topped with green milk." Yeah, try getting that out. But if you do digital art, you won't have that problem, would you. I think I have proved my point.
Next Issue: what skills mush a digital artist possess to create GREAT digital art. I dont know, photoshop? ohh, and the artist has to be creative, so they wont make yucky art.

Well, lets start off. Digital media is all around us, yeah. You can have mobile phones, or as old people say "cellphones", cd's, video's, televison, INTERNET, and video games!!! But one of the most "important" forms of digital media are computers! seriously, they like rule the world, or do they? because behind the computer is the Binary Numeral System! YAY, numeral system!!
Did you know, these systems are used to convert real-world information or represent numeric values using the code of 2 numbers '0' and '1'. I dont think you did... Anyways, each of these numbers '1' or '0' are called bits. Plural, bytes! This is used as information storage in computer science. Bytes can usually consist of 8 bits in computers nowadays but can vary according to the different hardware.
Now moving on, sampling rates. To be honest I dont really know, so I'm going to look it up in wikipedia! What would I do if wikipedia didn't exist? I have no idea. So back to sampling rates, a sampling rate is typically expressed in samples per second, or hertz (Hz), the rate at which samples of an analog signal are taken in order to be converted into digital form. If you dont get what I am rambling on about here is a picture to help you understand. COLOUR DEPTH !!!
The colour depth does affect the outcome of an image, it's pretty simple, the higher the number of colours then the more realistic the image will appear. wow. Now i will try again to put a beauitful picture comparing colour depth for you. I really hope this will work! And of course it doesnt. And yes I know you have to click the "add image" button, but its not working.

And yes, I still have more to say. So here it is, okay we know that colour depth effects both still and video digital media. yeah, still with me. But we also know that sampling rates only effect video but not still media. And I dont know why, and I bet you dont either, so I find it my duty to tell you. Well im not sure, but I think because colour depth is constantly changing the colours, and i dont actually know what I am talking about. So I will comeback later and answer this question. okay.
